A Quiet Place Part II Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. Djimon Hounsou & Scoot McNairy Are Totally Wasted
As refreshing as the film's breathless runtime is, the flipside is that it doesn't allow much room for the film's peripheral characters to be developed or, well, do much at all.
By far the biggest casualty is Djimon Hounsou, who plays an unnamed survivor that ends up crossing paths with Cillian Murphy's Emmett.
Hounsou is an actor of such gravitas that his presence implied a beefy supporting role, but his character is mostly just around to exposit in what's really more of an extended cameo.
Scoot McNairy also shows up for a single, brief scene in a role that shan't be spoiled, but considering the actor's talents, it's frustrating to see him come and go without really doing much of anything at all.
There's little doubt that Krasinski had actors falling over themselves wanting to appear in the sequel, but it might've been worth adding a few more minutes to the runtime in order to make these two performers actually feel well utilised.
