6. The Script Is Total Nonsense

A Wrinkle In Time
Disney

A Wrinkle in Time may be based on Madeleine L'Engle's much-loved novel, but that doesn't mean this script, from Frozen writer-director Jennifer Lee and Jeff Stockwell, makes a lick of sense.

Even accepting that you have to abandon your standards for logic when it comes to fantasy fare, there's very little in this film that coheres in a meaningful or memorable way.

The film has a rushed, thrown-together feel to it, where characters race through heaps of expository dialogue intended to sell the plot to audiences, but without any of the necessary feeling.

On top of being messy and confusing, it's not even vaguely charming. It feels like a first draft screenplay that needed quite a few more passes before getting the green light.
