Nicholas Hoult as Brett Mole
Who Is He? Born in the second book, Adrians illegitimate half brother (by his father) Brett grows up to be everything Adrian ever wanted to be: rich and successful at a young age with a playboy lifestyle made possible by his hugely successful career in finance. Until the 2008 recession hits him and he loses everything, forcing him to move in with Adrians parents. The Prostrate Years also foreshadows further financial troubles as Adrian casually mentions Brett convincing him to invest his life insurance in a fail-safe Icelandic opportunity.
Why Nicholas Hoult? Although Hoults a good actor with a career thats firmly on the up after a supporting role in X-Men: First Class, I remember him best as Tony Stonem in Skins, a character whos flashy and arrogant and does things at the expense of others. Which is exactly how Ive always thought of Brett. There are vast differences between Brett and Tony but its a broadly similar character type. Additionally, the change in Bretts character to incompetent sponger during the recession would be a good test of Hoults talents.
Jack OConnell as Glenn Mole
Who Is He? Adrians first child who was born when Adrian was in his late teens and who discovers Adrian is his father in The Cappuccino Years. A surprisingly multi-layered character whos sometimes portrayed as a good-natured dunce, not knowing why hes fighting in Afghanistan but is shown to be very protective of his family, squaring up to his mothers abusive boyfriend and threatening to beat up Hugo Fairfax-Lycett after Daisys affair.
Why Jack OConnell Ill be honest: Ive only seen Jack OConnell in Skins but his performance always greatly impressed me and other reviews heap praise on his acting, particularly his very naturalistic style. Also, as with Isy Suttie, I just think that hed physically fit the role.
