Adrien Brody: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances...
5. Bloom - The Brothers Bloom (2009)
The Brothers Bloom is the least critically-respected of Rian Johnson's output, and while perhaps it is a different speed to Looper and Brick (as much as they are to each other), it's a solid little picture because of it. Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo play the eponymous brothers - who also happen to be international conmen. Brody, as Bloom, really nails down the character's sheer distrust of his brother; the two have pulled so many cons together (with the older Stephen always being in charge) that Bloom doesn't know how often his brother is actually conning him. The actor is a dab hand at evoking the sadness at that brotherly mistrust through his understated performance, resulting in an affecting, bittersweet ending to the film. Those who haven't seen it should watch it just for those heartbreaking last few minutes.
