Adrien Brody: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

4. Salvador Dalí - Midnight In Paris (2011)

Brody's brief turn as Salvador Dalí in Woody Allen's magical Midnight in Paris is brilliant. Even those with a passing knowledge of Dalí will appreciate not only how much he looks like him but more simply how entertaining his impression is. The Dalí concocted by Woody Allen is an absolute crackpot, and Brody delivers the eccentricities of his personality with aplomb. It will always be fun watching Gil (Owen Wilson) try and explain not only his woman troubles but also the fact that he is from the future to a surrealist like Dalí - who takes it in his stride and merely insists on continuously reminding Wilson's Gil of his name ("Dalí!"). He also clearly has an unhealthy obsession with rhinoceroses, which is forgivable because of the way he pronounces 'rhinoceroses'. If the whole film wasn't so good, the minor appearances of famous historical people from the world of arts & literature would still be worth the price of admission alone, from Tom Hiddleston's distinguished F. Scott Fitzgerald to Corey Stoll's coarse and belligerent Hemingway. But the best of the bunch is unquestionably Adrien Brody's Salvador Dalí.
