After The Dark Knight Rises: 10 Films Chris Nolan Could Direct Next

Now that his Batman saga is complete, will his next film be a personal project or something else? We rundown what Nolan could make as his next movie...

Christopher Nolan is truly blessed with God given talent. As one of Hollywood€™s best A-List directors, he is soon to enjoy yet another wad of money and acclaim and even more money and even more acclaim when his third Batman movie, €˜The Dark Knight Rises€™ comes out next month. The million dollar question on our lips though is, what will he do next? Nolan bought himself carte blanche years ago to make whatever movie he wants at Warner Bros and has a blank cheque at his disposal for his next motion picture. Simply put, he can direct whatever he wants with whomever he wants. Now that his Batman saga is complete, will his next film be a personal project or will he instead choose from one of the hundreds of manuscripts being hurled at him from all sides? We can only guess. From all the information we know of the director right now, here's 10 movies that Nolan could direct next consisting of films he previously attempted to get off the ground but couldn't get financial backing (he won't have that problem now!) or that he has been linked with and a few our of fantasy choices for what he should direct...

1. Citizen Hughes (aka Mr Hughes)

It€™s no secret that Christopher Nolan has long wanted to make a biopic about the film mogul, aviator and eccentric, Howard Hughes. After 2002€™s Insomnia it seemed there was real momentum behind this project with Jim Carrey tipped to play the lead. However that all fell through when Martin Scorsese€™s The Aviator got together quickly with Leonardo DiCaprio and became one of the biggest films of 2004. Studios were nervous about releasing another Howard Hughes movie so close to Scorsese€™s and Nolan's version had to go back on the shelf gathering dust. More recently Christopher Nolan looked to be gearing up to direct his Hughes biopic again. He had the €˜best screenplay {he€™s} ever written€™ and now has the studio backing to make it happen. Could this one be going before cameras next year? Nolan has recently said that he has already made films about a rich oddball who was orphaned as a child €“ namely Bruce Wayne. Is this just distraction? I find it hard to believe that he would simply give up on a project that seemed so important to him. Nolan€™s Hughes film would concentrate on the later years of Hughes€™ life when his OCD was completely unmanageable. Whereas The Aviator featured much about Hughes early life, Nolan wanted to take a hard look at the entrepreneur€™s mental illness and his flirtation with insanity. If there is any director who can make a good, thought-provoking film about the self-destruction of a great human mind, it is Christopher Nolan. Who Would Star?: Jim Carrey was certainly who Nolan wanted to star in the movie ten years ago. However with the emergence of a relationship with Christian Bale (who plays obsessives like no other) and also with Leonardo DiCaprio having starred in Inception (and also the Hughes movie that blocked Nolan's with The Aviator), Nolan has several names he could turn upon. Likelihood as Nolan's Next Movie? Very strong. Out of all the projects in this list, Citizen Hughes is the most likely to be made next. Click "next" below to read the next entry...
