Age of Ultron: 8 Ways The Avengers' Quicksilver Beats X-Men's
3. He Sets Up Important Factors For The MCU
With Marvel’s arsenal planned out until 2019, it’s hard not to think of future films when watching Age of Ultron, especially with Captain America: Civil War dropping next year. In the comics, Civil War occurs due to a disagreement over a Superhuman Registration Act, where some of the main issues are civilian casualties, safety, and security.
Up until Age of Ultron’s Quicksilver, no character in the MCU has actually died. This fact would end up making the entire argument that causes Civil War ring extremely hollow, were it not for Pietro Maximoff’s timely demise; as a younger character, his death came as something of a shock, providing us with a stark reminder of the costs of heroes in our world – the central issue of the hero conflict in the upcoming movie. With Quicksilver’s death in mind, the conflict between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark in Civil War will be far more genuine.
Furthermore, Whedon and Marvel executive producer Kevin Feige have stated that Quicksilver’s death sets up a meaningful arc in the MCU for his sister, Scarlet Witch – who will also be making an appearance in Civil War.
To be fair, X-Men’s Quicksilver, while being cursory in Days of Future Past, has the chance to make a return engagement in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse and show the X-Men franchise what he’s worth.
