Al Pacino: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Starkman - Gigli

Why? Just...why? Pacino goes through the motions (noticing a pattern here) in an awful, truly offensive film. It's perhaps easy to see why Pacino might have signed up because Martin Brest, the man who directed him to an Oscar in Scent of a Woman, also directed this but, Al, read your scripts first. Coming at the low that was 'Bennifer', the films centres around Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck) who is made to kidnap the mentally disabled son of a federal prosecutor to stop Starkman (Pacino) being sent to prison. The mob boss doesn't trust Larry to do the job well so sends lesbian hard-nut Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) after him to oversee the job. Then Gigli turns her because he's, you know, Ben Affleck, and Ricki's lover slashes her wrists because, you know, it's Jennifer Lopez. And Al Pacino sits and shouts because, well, that's what he does now. I feel dirty after writing that plot synopsis. I hope you're all happy now. Anyway, it's almost as if Pacino is pretending he's not even in this movie because he thinks if he shouts loud enough we'll forget his grey wig and crappy suits. Look at how terrifying Pacino is as Michael Corleone, even when standing in silence. Now look at his Starkman as he shouts and stomps. It's not even a fair fight is it?!
