Aladdin Trailer Reactions: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. Aladdin & Jasmine Don't Quite Convince

Aladdin Jasmine Naomi Scott

Now, there's not much denying that Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott certainly look the part as Aladdin and Jasmine respectively, but things are a little less assured when it comes to their spoken lines.

Though the trailer (sensibly) doesn't focus too much on their performances, their few line readings throughout the trailer come off as stilted and lacking in emotional affect.

It's hard to shake the feeling that these two were chosen more for their photogenic qualities than their acting, though Naomi Scott gave a genuinely solid performance in Power Rangers, so there wasn't much reason to doubt her here.

They shouldn't be totally written off yet, but the trailer clearly knows its strength is in selling the look of these characters to the audience rather than their personalities. Don't be surprised if they end up coming off a bit dull in the final movie.
