Alien: Covenant - 18 WTF Moments

11. Christopher Oram, Man Of Faith

Alien Covenant Billy Crudup
Fox

Captain Oram's defining characteristic throughout the film is his faith, which he uses as a guiding force to abandon the original mission and instead head to the Engineer planet.

He also remarks that people don't take him seriously because of his religious beliefs, so he clearly has a chip on his shoulder about that and makes a over-compensatory attempt to assert himself as a result.

What's weird is that the whole faith angle is dropped pretty quickly once things go south, with Oram admitting he was wrong, and Daniels rather ham-fistedly stating that they could use some of his faith right about now.

Considering how steeped in religious lore both Prometheus and this film are, it's odd that Ridley Scott just bailed on the faith theme so suddenly, seemingly in order to make way for the more typical third-act xenomorph shenanigans.
