Alien: Covenant Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

4. The Absolutely Insane Gore

Alien Covenant Backburster

Speaking of which, this is one Hell of a bloody movie. Though Scott smartly builds slowly to the alien attacks, when they finally happen, they're absolutely revolting in the most awesome way possible.

There are geysers of blood, characters are horribly dismembered, and Scott refuses to flinch away from any of it.

While Alien was never about explicit gore, there's no shame in going that way in order to convey the absolute viciousness of the alien creatures, and Scott sure doesn't half-a** it.

The fact that the gore effects are so excellent no doubt helps justify their inclusion, and while many will find them too nauseating or over-the-top, they nevertheless evoke a potent, deeply unsettling body horror vibe throughout that's not easily shaken.
