Alien Covenant Sequel: 10 Things It Must Do
9. Tie Up Prometheus’ Loose Ends
Everything in Prometheus that wasn’t a plothole is a dangling loose end that Covenant failed to address, so isn’t it about time the fans were given some firm answers?
Why did the Engineers want to destroy mankind? Why did they leave a map to LV-223? And why on earth did Millburn pet that terrifying cobra creature?
The answer to the latter question probably lies in the script writer’s fondness for tired clichés, but the other two we can theorise over for eternity.
There are, however, definitive answers to these burning questions and Ridley and his creative team have chosen to withhold them for now.
Although leaving some leeway for the audience to form their own ideas about ambiguous concepts is an approach with merit, full disclosure on the Engineers’ motives and true nature would be welcomed by the fanbase.
Elizabeth Shaw sacrificed her life in an bid to discover the answer to that question. Hopefully her death won’t be in vain.
