Aliens in Indiana Jones' future?

indy-sitting.jpgWe've heard rumblings about Indiana Jones' next quest being set around the discovery of extra-terrestrial life for some time now, which is why today I'm quite surprised by the amount of movie sites that are getting so worked up over it. I thought it was common knowledge? I mean after all, aliens and particularly Area 51 was the main theme around Frank Darabont's rejected script for the movie, which at one time they were very close to directing. This is what CHUD are telling us today about what they have heard for Indiana Jones IV...
Indy IV is going to be shooting outside of Los Angeles, in New Haven, Connecticut, in New Mexico and in Hawaii. €˜Belloq€™ also tells us that the opening action scene of the film will pit Dr. Jones against Russians agents in Area 51.
One thing that is different from Darabont€™s draft is the addition of Shia LaBeouf€™s character; €˜Belloq€™ tells us that LaBeouf is going to be playing a greaser, wearing jeans and a leather jacket and riding around on a motorcycle. He also says that Indy and Shia will be thrown together in this adventure but will not learn they€™re related until a pivotal action scene.
Sounds like trouble if you ask me. I'm more worried about LaBeouf in the movie than I am about aliens! But anyway...
I would say that the main storyline remains roughly the same €“ it involves crystal skulls and takes its cues from Chariots of the Gods.
Well we all know how obsessed Steven Spielberg is with aliens, and the imagination and wondrous situations he has placed them in his universes over the years. This has to be true, I'm nearly certain of it. I mean if you think about it, where the hell else can Indy Jones go after discovering the Ark of the Covenant and The Holy Grail? Only possible Mummies, but that has been done by Stephen Sommers already. Could a movie about aliens work for Indiana Jones work? I would say with any other director ABSOLUTLY NOT but with Steven Spielberg, a man who knows how to create aliens in a believable setting... I would say YES. That's what many people keep forgetting about this movie... It's Spielberg directing! He hasn't got it in him to make the movie look stupid.
