4. Predator 2 (1990)
While far from being a critical darling, Predator 2 is a great sequel to the 1987 classic. Rather than simply clone its predecessor, Predator 2 twists nearly everything about it, subverting expectations to deliver an enjoyably fresh follow-up thats entertaining in all the right ways. Gone are the muscle-bound heroes and victims of the first film, instead replaced by the likes of Ruben Blades, Bill Paxton and, of course, Danny Glover, who gets the chance to play an alternate-reality take on his famous Lethal Weapon character, Roger Murtaugh. Gone, too, is the lush jungle setting of Central America, as this films Predator takes the hunt to the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Throw in a little subplot involving Gary Busey as a government character with long-time knowledge of the Predator and Predator 2 acts as a uniquely different beast to its predecessor. The film is filled with a number of awesome kills and scenes, such as the great subway sequence, the demise of King Willie and the long final chase and battle where the predator/prey roles are reversed between Harrigan and the Predator. Its differences to the original film are often seen as faults when, in actuality, its those very differences that help elevate it from being a mere been there, done that film going through the motions and stands as a worthy sequel to Predator.
