Alita: 7 Reasons We Need A Sequel

5. More Jai Courtney And Michelle Rodriguez

One of the most wonderfully WTF joys of seeing Alita: Battle Angel is discovering all of the bizarre and completely out-of-left-field cameos for yourself. While there's one that absolutely takes the cake as the most gloriously insane one (don't worry, we'll get there), two of the runner-ups are Jai Courtney and Michelle Rodriguez.

Courtney appears very briefly, only for a couple of shots, as Jashugan, a contestant in one of the earlier Motorball sequences. He's only there for a couple of seconds and it is essentially just his head on an entirely CGI body, but boy does it leave an impression. Rodriguez, on the other hand, is a bit less recognizable, as she is given the same trademark appearance as Alita, big eyes and all. She appears in several of Alita's flashbacks as a fellow URM Berserker, fighting alongside and even training Alita.

When recently stopped on the red carpet and asked about these cameos, Rodriguez said;

"We didn’t want to just put somebody in. What if there was a sequel? We had to cast three people without really having a part for them to be basing it on to see if they wanted to do it...It’s the promise of a part if there is a sequel, there might not be. If there is a sequel, you don’t want to be roped into something that you’re not going to like, but they knew us enough to trust that we’d make sure it was something cool."

So we need a sequel if for no other reason than to see more of Jai Courtney's decapitated head and Michelle Rodriguez's Alita-style eyes.
