Robert Rodriguez has had a long and exceedingly eclectic career as a writer/director. He is the only filmmaker in history to have written and directed every film in a franchise that spans the rating's board from PG all the way to hard-R, with the Spy Kids franchise and it's spin-offs Machete and Machete Kills.

Ever since his debut film El Mariachi, he has consistently delivered films packed with visceral energy all their own. But never before has he had the toolset with which to deliver such high-octane, pulse-pounding setpieces as he did with Alita: Battle Angel. In stepping up to the world of multi-hundred-million-dollar blockbusters and getting to play in producer and writer James Cameron's digital toybox, Rodriguez crafted some of the most thrilling action setpieces to hit the big screen in years.

A sequel would undoubtedly see Rodriguez return and get to go even further with this. After having gotten used to utilizing all this digital tech to get what was in his head onto the screen with the first film, a second film would see him stepping up his game even further and crafting even more gonzo setpieces. And honestly, the world could always use more of that.
