Alita: Battle Angel - 16 WTF Moments
14. Ido Is A Serial Killer (Kinda)
Because the movie doesn't have enough to juggle in its first act, a bizarre subplot is thrown in the mix where a serial killer is implied to be roaming the streets of Iron City and killing young women.
It's soon enough revealed that Dr. Ido is in fact the man responsible, much to Alita's horror, though Ido then announces that he's a Hunter-Warrior, a bounty hunter bestowed with the authority to take down criminals.
Ido explains that he joined this line of work after his daughter, Alita, was killed by a drug-crazed cyborg, and that deep down, he hoped that one of his targets might overpower and kill him.
This entire part of the film isn't particularly well explained and honestly just comes off a tad awkward, in large part because Waltz isn't physically credible enough against the cyborgs, and he looks absolutely ridiculous wielding a gigantic scythe-like weapon.
