Alita: Battle Angel - 16 WTF Moments

13. All The Expository Dialogue

Alita Battle Angel Hugo

Alita's biggest weakness by far is its script, which is rife with an utterly absurd amount of expository dialogue.

Despite the film's colossal $200 million budget and clear ability to show rather than tell, long passages of the film are devoted to characters flatly spelling out lore, character motivations and every last detail the audience just has to know.

Especially blatant are Ido and Chiren spoon-feeding viewers their backstory and Ido vomiting up word soup about his tragic past with his daughter.

It's not that this information should've been withheld from the audience, but the info-dumps just come across as lazy and contrived.
