Alita: Battle Angel - 9 Reasons It's A Failure

4. It's Surprisingly Dull In Places

Once the sheen of the admittedly dazzling visual effects wears off - and believe me, it does - it's shocking just how damn boring this film is in places.

Whether audiences are being suffocated with an expository spiel or simply observing Alita as she goes about her quest, there's desperately little energy, enthusiasm or excitement to proceedings.

Sure, the Motorball sequences provide some temporary pep, but given Cameron's involvement, it's stunning that the end result so closely resembles any other generic, lifeless sci-fi tentpole.

There are genuinely moments in this film which are draining in their tedium, which is the last thing anyone wants from a project of this scale and apparent ingenuity.
