Now we start to get into the really great territory.

101 Dalmations is one of the most critically adored Disney films ever released: it is creative, beautifully animated and packs a true dramatic punch. It might not be quite as witty or as charming as some of the other Classic releases, but what it lacks in magic it more than makes up for with personality.

For some, the film will always be about the quite wonderful Cruella De Vil - a villain for the ages and one capable of being genuinely scary. There's something about her malignance - the fact that she deems life so casually disposable - that sets her head and shoulders above some of the Disney baddies who seek far more magnificent ends.

26. Peter Pan (1953)

Peter Pan should be the poster boy for Disney fans: his very spirit embodies eternal childishness in the best possible way and he has an almost naive thirst for adventure and magic. Oddly though, Disney's version casts him as somewhat obnoxious - Tinkerbell too - which will always put purist fans off.

Disney's adaptation of the classic story remains one of the finest ever committed to film: it has a similarly brilliant villain to Cruella De Vil in the camp, theatrical Captain Hook. Yes, there are issues (and the morality messages involved are wayward to say the least), but it's still a great adventure animation, and it's definitely one of Disney's most nostalgic treasures.
