All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best
53. Meet The Robinsons (2007)
Another from the fallow years, Meet The Robinsons at least aspired to narrative greatness - aiming squarely at the same nostalgic sci-fi territory as The Incredibles. It's just it didn't managed to capture the same spirit thanks to a weaker script, not entirely memorable characters.
It's not quite clever enough or funny enough to be classed in the same breath as The Incredibles, unfortunately. And as the jokes wear thing after the first act, and the sentimentality of the story fails to match the sentimentality for futurism, it begins to fray more around the edges.
So while there is some aspirational value here, the film was hamstrung by the fact it was made by a creative agency in the middle of a pretty terrible slump.
52. Fun & Fancy Free (1947)
While there are some charming elements in Fun & Fancy Free, the anthology film really shows the issues of the time. Disney was stripped of talent thanks to the military draft in the 40s, the economic climate was hardly conducive to great film-making and jingoism was dominating the domestic market.
It's almost as if Fun & Fancy Free was released to remind everyone that Disney was still operating, and though there are moments of charm, it's another largely forgettable experience. Again, it's a case of an insubstantial collection that most people forget when they're listing the Classics, which really tells its own story.
