All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best
6. The Jungle Book (1967)
Simple, charming fun, The Jungle Book takes a beloved children's story, trims off some of the more difficult sequences and ideas to frame a child's coming of age story with wonderful, colourful characters, an enigmatic spirit and some of the greatest ever songs. It's no accident that good songs equates to high scores.
Mowgli is your archetypal intrepid Disney hero, guided through life by mentors and prevented from hurting himself with too many poor decisions, but not protected entirely. He's an everyman figure learning everyday lessons in an exotic environment from fantastical characters but it's all familiar and it's all comfortable.
The Bare Necessities might well be Disney's greatest song, Baloo may be the best ever supporting character, the jungle may be the artists' proudest achievement. All-in-all there are a lot of markers of brilliance.
Some say the new live action redo is better than the original, but that's just silliness.
