All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Tangled (2010)
Tangled is often wrongly overlooked in favour of Frozen as Disney's best Princess-led digital animation, and it needs to stop happening.
Based on a fairly simple story, this Rapunzel retelling is further evidence of Disney's profound genius in spinning something so rich from an incomplex, already familiar seed. And it is completely stunning to think the whole thing cost an eye-watering $260m (making it the most expensive animation ever).
The gamble paid off, though. Unlike the other digital releases, Tangled looks like a classic: the world shares an aesthetic with the castles and princesses golden age releases, and the animation is breath-taking. Added to that, there's a delightful soundtrack, an inverted, tongue-in-cheek Prince Charming character who flips the stereotype on its head and a great story. What's not to love?
