All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Aladdin (1992)
Though he was excellent in it, Aladdin is far more than just Robin Williams' performance as the Genie. It has magic, adventure, romance, villainy... It's like a golden age epic with cartoon characters.
Obviously, the songs are on point - with Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead, Prince Ali, Friend Like Me and A Whole New World all five star offerings - and Alan Menken's score is just as good. It builds an atmosphere that suits the lavish backgrounds and the overall exotic spirit.
It's fundamentally the kind of romance that works whether it's on a soap opera, in an airport trash novel or on the silver screen: there's deception, aspiration, adversity and acceptance, as well as the revelation that love overcomes everything. Because, of course, Disney knows how to do romance just as well as they know how to make animals come to life.
And Jafar is easily a top 10 villain, with his serpentine looks and his burning, lascivious lust for the Princess.
