All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Zootopia (2016)
Zootopia (called Zootropolis outside of the US for no real fathomable reason) is deservedly considered one of the best films of 2016: it blends Disney's eye for character and great universes with Pixar's more knowing edge to create a digital animation that is definitely up there with the best of Pixar's solo work.
It's as unconventional in Disney terms as it is formulaic: there's a couple with seemingly insurmountable issues to begin with who bond, there's a journey from naivety to awareness, there's adversity, villainy and heroism... But the plot doesn't rely on romance, the hero saves herself and the villain isn't immediately obvious as 99% of Disney's tend to do.
It's also genuinely funny, has a great sentimental story and a menagerie of characters who are diverse and multi-dimensional in a grown up way that doesn't alienate younger audiences. It's story-telling at its finest.
