All The Wrong Turn Movies Ranked Worst To Best

1. Wrong Turn

Wrong Turn Eliza Dushku
20th Century Fox

Six kids, lost in the woods. A creepy old gas station attendant and a family of mutant hillbillies. From these inauspicious beginnings, a whole movie franchise was born. It all started in 2003, with Rob Schmidt's unassuming teenage Deliverance riff, Wrong Turn.

On his way to a job interview Chris Flynn (Desmond Harrington) chances a shortcut and takes a... wrong turn. Running into Jessie (Eliza Dushku) and her friends, the gang look to the locals for help. This brings them into a collision course with Three Finger and his family, who waste little time in cutting the kids down to size and serving them up for supper. The rest, as they say, is history.

It's a deceptively simple story - done countless times before and since - executed with chilling precision by Schmidt. The talented young cast deliver the best acting ever seen in the franchise, and the film's violence is brutally effective. Stan Winston's brilliant creature designs proved to be so iconic that they'd keep on coming back for five more movies, long after the first one killed most of them off. The films which followed would go darker, sillier and nastier, but there's something about the first film's simplicity which we keep coming back to. Not bad for an unassuming teenage Deliverance riff.
