Alternative Oscars 2019: The Nominees & Winners For Every Category

4. Best Original Score

First Man Moon Landing
Universal

WINNER: First Man

Seriously, the Academy? Despite it categorically being the best musical score of the year, Justin Hurwitz's lush arrangement for First Man didn't even get the courtesy of a nomination. How embarrassing (for the Academy).

It's especially odd as the Best Original Score field this year is its weakest in a long time. Between Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk, Isle of Dogs and Mary Poppins Returns, the only particularly memorable score belongs to If Beale Street Could Talk.

And so, out go the other four, replaced with our winner First Man, as well as Max Richter's lovely score for Mary Queen of Scots, Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow's disorientating work on Annihilation and Colin Stetson's haunting music for Hereditary.

RUNNERS-UP:

2. Mary Queen of Scots

3. If Beale Street Could Talk*

4. Annihilation

5. Hereditary
