The Amazing Spider-Man: 10 Spidey Movies That Must Be Made Next

9. The Sinister Six (2017)

There's no date yet attached to Goddard's spin-off, but given the appointment, it's probably not unreasonable to suspect that the script is coming along nicely. The Sinister Six are being talked about as Sony's attempt to rival the Avengers, though clearly from a different angle entirely. The key issue here for a spin-off focusing chiefly on villains is that we are not introduced to a perfunctory, inferior heroic character for the sake of it: just because there's a virulent strand of villainy, does not mean that we necessarily need a figure to stand in for Spider-Man, and it would be far more interesting to have the team built through the eyes of one of the villains. After all, perverse empathy is one of the key elements in making a villain truly enduring, and that would set up the Six nicely as something more tangibly engaging than some of the comic book villains we've seen in the past. Comic BookReference Point: "The Sinister Six," Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 With Norman Osborn in prison, thanks to the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 3, the head of the Six in this universe should be the newly introduced Doctor Octopus, working on his behalf in a long-game plan to see Osborn released, and Spider-Man simultaneously tormented. But before we even get to Spider-Man, the team need to be introduced, with each of their storylines converging in a way that channels the format of the classic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko epic. In the original comics, issues focused on individual battles with Spider-Man, and though that is not likely to happen (yet) - and rightly so, since this is a spin-off - the episodic approach to characters should be introduced as a means to establish the characters, with a Nick Fury "we're putting a team together" approach to bring them together.
