4. More Spectacular Action Sequences

A bit of a cheat perhaps given that special effects are always improving and therefore any subsequent film should always look more impressive than the last. But to be fair, in defence of Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy the effects still stand up today and Spider-Man looks amazing swinging though New York. The sequence where Flint Marko is resurrected as Sandman is pure perfection. The speeding train roof fight with Doc Ock is the most exciting sequence in all three films and Venom doesn't look bad at all...that's the best you'll get with that one. The trouble is, with the exception of the final showdown in Spider-Man 3, it'll all one-on-one action sequences that in terms of today's Avengers...and dare I say it the Alcatraz battle in X-Men: The Last Stand...feel quite small. The joy of Spider-Man has been the multiple rogues gallery (hence the Sinister Six) and we haven't really had that. Until now. If there's one thing that the Amazing Spider-Man 2 promises more than anything else, its spectacular action sequences. The showdown between Spider-Man and Electro glimpsed in the trailers looks stunning. Spider-Man facing off against Rhino looks magnificent, and we haven't seen what the battle with Green Goblin looks like yet (are we going to see that Gwen Stacey moment?). The scope and splendour of the sequel promises to deliver something not seen since the Chitauri attached New York in The Avengers.
