In what must surely go down as the worst kept secret in comic book movie history - along with the Talia Al Ghul revelation from The Dark Knight Rises - the final act takes a lot from The Night Gwen Stacy Died. Not only does it take in the infamous, profoundly affecting death itself (which should have made the film a 15, and not a 12A in the UK in all honesty) it also takes the reference further, extending to Gwen's costume, which is a direct nod to the fatal panels from the 1973 comic, as pretty much everyone spotted when the images first appeared online.
