6. Mary Jane Hasn't Been Introduced Yet
This summer, it was announced that the character of Mary Jane, played by Shailene Woodley of The Descendants, was being cut out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. According to director Marc Webb this was due to to concerns of the film being overstuffed with characters. While the part of Mary Jane was said be small in this film, it was still surprising to hear that a major character in the Spider-Man mythology was to be cut out of the film. Mary Jane is now going to be introduced in Amazing Spider-Man 3, with the second film keeping a focus on the relationship between Peter and Gwen. Now, if Gwen were to die in this film, I would argue it'd effectively undermine a big part of Mary Jane's character development. In the comics, Mary Jane knew Peter and Gwen before Gwen's death. When Gwen died, it was a big catalyst for Mary Jane's maturation as a person. Peter, after Gwen's death, accused Mary Jane of just being a party girl being and self centered, to which she ultimately proved him wrong. I feel Mary Jane needs to be introduced in this series before Gwen dies, so that a friendship can be established between the three characters, and so Gwen's death will factor in to Mary Jane's character arc.
