The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Villains: 6 Things That Look Great (And 3 That Suck)
5. The Source Of Rhino's Power
It's good to see that the depiction of Rhino seems to be based more on the Ultimate version of the character (which is what a lot of Marvel movies in general seem to be doing) rather than the classic 616 version. The 616 version of the character is a complete idiot. After exposure to mutagenic chemical and radiation treatments, including gamma ray bombardment, the character (Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich) is provided with superhuman strength, heightened levels of speed and stamina, and a high degree of durability. All of this is augmented by a thick polymer mat suit similar to a rhinoceros hide, which covers his entire body except for his face. The suit is highly impervious to damage and temperature extremes and is also equipped with two horns, designed to mimic the general shape and appearance of real rhino horns. It looks stupid. The Ultimate version (Alex O'Hirn) steels a "R.H.I.N.O" suit from the military. He's nowhere near as stupid as the 616 version and his suit looks much more impressive and plausible, whilst also providing the character with a similar level of strength and durability to the classic incarnation from the 616 universe. It will come across a lot better in live action in this form and that bodes well for this movie as a whole.
