Ambulance Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. It's A Rare Remake That Improves Upon The Original

Many casual viewers likely won't even be aware that Ambulance is based on the 2005 Danish film of the same name, and while one might pre-emptively expect Bay to be basically massacring a beloved cult classic of world cinema, that's actually not the case at all.

The original film is a bit of a mixed bag as it stands - well acted but hampered by a painfully low budget which prevents it from taking things to the next level.

Bay on the other hand has no such barrier, and feels like the perfect filmmaker to take that enticing, simple premise and turning it into a splashy, unapologetically ridiculous Hollywood actioner.

While certainly bigger and louder than the original film in all the ways that Hollywood remakes of non-English films typically are, this a case where it actually works and delivers a more polished, beefy riff on the concept.
