Ambulance Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Lorne Balfe's Intense Musical Score

Ambulance marks composer Lorne Balfe's fifth collaboration with Michael Bay, and it honestly might be his best one yet.

Balfe's pulsing electronic score provides a propulsive sonic bed for Bay's frequently mesmerising visuals, ensuring every possible drop of suspense and excitement is wrung from them.

While hardly the most unique or creative film score you'll hear this year, it's both viscerally intense and richly atmospheric, bouncing from pulsing beats during the chases to orchestral swells in the talkier interludes.

Any good Michael Bay movie needs a fittingly bombastic score to accompany it, and Balfe certainly delivers the goods in that regard.
