Ambulance Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
Ups...
6. The INSANE Action Sequences
If you're able to abide the uneven editing and sometimes excessively shaky camerawork, Ambulance certainly delivers a megaton of bang for your buck in the action stakes.
As the majority of the film literally involves our "heroes" being chased around the streets of LA by the cops, pancaking cop cars left and right as they go, it's very much a project attuned to Bay's strengths as a filmmaker.
Nobody will be left complaining that the film doesn't contain enough action - this thing is crammed with shootouts, car crashes, explosions, and other asides that shouldn't be spoiled.
It is an hilariously over-the-top monument to what Bay does best, serving up what basically feels like a live-action adaptation of a Grand Theft Auto mission, complete with the frequent use of jaw-droppingly fluid drone camerawork amid all the carnage.
You'll probably feel tired and maybe even a little irritable by the time all of Ambulance's 136 minutes are over, but you'll also have been thrilled to the core.
