Angry Birds: 4 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Need To See

2. The Shining In Pig Castle

Angry Birds Easter Eggs
Warner Bros. Pictures

Despite ostensibly being a children's film, there's quite a few adult elements to Angry Birds - lots of potty humour and innuendo. Although one of the odder cases of this is a reference to a film many of the target audience's parents weren't even alive when it came out; in the pig castle, Red opens a door to find a mock-up of a corridor from the Overlook Hotel, with two pigs dressed in blue dresses chanting "Red rum", a neat little nod to The Shining

This isn't the only kid's film to feature some rather overt nods to Stanley Kubrick's seminal horror; Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3, is obsessed with the film, and as such Woody and Buzz's adventures are full of references to the film, from the floor pattern at Sid's house to the recurrence of the number 237.
