2. Annabelle's Origin Story Isn't That Interesting

In case you hadn't figured it out from the title, Annabelle: Creation is an origin story for the titular demonic doll and a prequel to the first film, explaining how Annabelle came to become possessed in the first place.

Unfortunately, though, Annabelle's origins aren't particularly interesting or surprising, and as long as you're basically conscious while watching the film, you'll have most of the basic beats figured out before they're eventually revealed later on.

It's not a terrible origin story by any means, just the most simplistic and generic route they could've gone. "Functional" might be the best descriptor: it's neat and tidy but totally uninspired and derived from any number of other horror movies.
