Ant-Man: 13 Obscure Easter Eggs & References You Probably Missed
5. Garrett Morris
When Michael Douglas was cast as Hank Pym, everyone fell over themselves to talk about how he was bringing the original Ant-Man to screen, but there's an even more tangible legacy casting that takes a little more knowledge to spot.
When Scott Lang jumps out of his apartment building having tested out the suit's capabilities for the first time, he lands on - and totals - a car, which is driven by the first man to play SNL in a live action production. That honour fell to Garrett Morris, who played Ant-Man for an SNL sketch 35 years ago called "Ant Man at a party". In all honesty, despite SNl royalty like Dan Aykroyd and Jon Belushi appearing, it's not the greatest skit of all time, but it's notable for having a version of the Ant-Man suit that's basically the same as Lang's.
But at least the cameo fits the comic agenda. As Morris himself said:
"Way back when the dinosaurs were roaming around, I did a thing called 'Ant-Man at a Party. That's what they were referring to. But you see, only if you have a wheelchair now, would you even remember that. People 25 or under, you don't know what the hell [my cameo] means. 'Why is that black man in there looking up? What's he doing there?'"
Clearly, Peyton Reed remembered it fondly enough.
