Ant-Man: 28 WTF Moments

19. All The Name-Mocking Scenes From The Trailer Have Been Cut

Prior to its release, much attention was paid to the rather mocking scenes in Ant-Man's trailers, which almost seemed to be embarrassed and ashamed at the name of the superhero. In one scene, Scott says to Hank, "One thing. Is it too late to change the name?", and later, he says, "I'm Ant-Man. I know, it wasn't my idea". These moments walked a fine line between matching audience concerns that Ant-Man was a lame name for a superhero and flat-out insulting the very property they're adapting, but it was quite surprising to see that these scenes are nowhere to be found in the final cut of the movie. It seems that Marvel probably had them shot as insurance, simply so they could quell audience fears about the movie not being self-aware enough, while not having to include such clear disdain for the namesake in the actual film itself. If nothing else, it's a pretty damn clever bait-and-switch.
