Because the Ant-Man suit itself apparently isn't cool enough, Hank also gives Scott an extra weapon: two coloured discs which can be used to shrink and enlarge himself. The red disc shrinks and the blue one "embiggens" anything they touch, which is a fine device to allow the filmmakers to have a little more fun with Ant-Man's interactions with the world around him. They also allow Scott to escape at least two especially sticky situations, and hopefully future Ant-Man appearances will include more zany creations like this, because they fit the film perfectly.
