Ant-Man: 28 WTF Moments

15. Wasp's Death Flashback

Mid-way through the movie, Hank begins to open up about the death of his wife, Janet van Dyne (whose face is never seen), explaining that he and her were on a mission in 1987, attempting to diffuse a bomb, when Hank's suit stopped working and Janet (as a primitive version of Wasp), decided to go sub-atomic, disappearing from this world and entering the "Quantum Realm" from which she could not escape. This resulted in her sacrificing herself for the greater good, and explains both why Hank resigned from S.H.I.E.L.D. and why he wouldn't tell his daughter Hope exactly how her mother died. It's a thrilling if brief moment that helps develop Pym's character in a meaningful way, and Douglas knocks it out of the park.
