Ant-Man 3: Everything It Needs To Fix About The Franchise
6. Make It A Heist Film (Again)
The fact that there is even an Ant-Man 3 happening just comes to show how much the MCU formula has worked so far. Impressively, their biggest successes usually lie in solo entries which play out like films from other genres that just happen to star superheroes. From the space-operas in the Guardians films to the coming-of-age tales in the Tom Holland Spider-Mans, the tone of each superhero sub-series tends to help set itself apart from the rest of the pack.
The same is true for the original Ant-Man, which was more heist-comedy than standard superhero. Ant-Man And The Wasp strayed away from that somewhat, instead having characters trying to rescue Janet from the Quantum Realm while being tracked down by a number of foes. Granted, changing up the tone isn't always bad, but in this case it took away from the franchise's unique selling point, undoubtedly turning off some moviegoers in the process.
Having them attempt to steal a valuable MacGuffin from a shady organisation like A.I.M. (more on them later) might work a treat here, as not only would you return to the original's tone, but also play up to Lang's strengths (which we've already established is very much needed).
