Ant-Man 3: Everything It Needs To Fix About The Franchise
5. Limit The Comedy To A Few Characters
To be fair, this criticism could be applied to many MCU stand-alones, not just this one. Comedy is a staple for the Marvel brand in general, and while this definitely works most of the time, there have been points where it's taken a bit too far. Particularly, this tends to happen in sequels like Ant-Man And The Wasp, where everyone turns into a comedian for some unknown reason (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, I'm looking at you too).
When characters such as The Wasp and Hank Pym start cracking more jokes in the sequel, it's jarring rather than funny as it isn't line with what the character has been so far. What's even worse is that these often come at the worst times, where the film seems to sacrifice a dramatic moment that's been building for a while in favour of a quippy one-liner. This really works against the film as even if it's funny, it still takes all the tension out of the situation, infuriating invested fans who were waiting for the payoff.
So, screenwriters, maybe go for an emotionally impactful moment sometimes, and save the funniest lines for Scott and Luis (whose comedy we're all really here for anyway).
