Ant-Man And The Wasp: 11 Big Implications Of Marvel's Announcement

2. Ant-Man Survives Civil War (And Infinity War)

It's hardly a major point on the surface, but the announcement of an Ant-Man sequel suggests that Paul Rudd's Scott Lang is going to emerge from his ringer job on Civil War (when Cap and Falcon call him in to help Bucky escape) mostly unscathed. The more you look at that film, the more you have to suggest that he's probably going to have only a minor role - basically hired like Quicksilver was in X-Men: Days Of Future Past for a specific sequence (in this case, he's the locksmith, where Quicksilver was a jail-breaker). Anyway, all speculation aside, he's obviously not going to die if he' going to appear in his own second movie in 2019. The same also goes for Infinity War Part 1, since that also comes before Ant-Man And The Wasp. Given the way that story plays out in the comics, it might have been reasonable to think that Thanos clicking his fingers and killing most of existence would have been the mid-point of the double-header. If that was the case, you'd have thought that more minor MCU members like Ant-Man might have been killed off (even if just temporarily) before the second part picked up the pieces. But what if this announcement means that Ant-Man isn't even going to be in Infinity War Part 1? If he's just a ringer in Civil War, he may not even be brought in as an Avengers until after his sequel, as the Quantum Realm and other parts of the cosmic MCU may well hold the key to beating Thanos.
