Ant-Man And The Wasp: 11 Big Implications Of Marvel's Announcement

7. More Female Identity In The MCU...

Despite the fact that Marvel have so far ignored pleas from fans for a Black Widow movie and have relegated almost every other female character to the sidelines of their films (or turned even the most gifted and powerful women into romantic distractions and narrative devices), they're beginning to do better. Black Widow had a more interesting role in Age Of Ultron, and Scarlet Witch was the emotional heart of the climax of the same movie, and while that's only a small step, the addition of Captain Marvel and now Wasp to the top billing level in Phase 3 should stop at least some of the accusations of sexism levelled at Feige's leadership. It's certainly a smart move in terms of the Ant-Man sequel too: Evangeline Lily's role in Ant-Man was good but she was held back somewhat because the key relationship was between Scott Lang and her father. With the focus shifted now, we should get to see more of the interesting dynamic between the two younger heroes.
