Antonio Banderas: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked
5 PerformancesThat Sucked
5. Pedro - The House Of The Spirits (1994)
The House Of The Spirits is an absolute anomaly: based on an exceptional classic book and featuring a stunningly talented cast, the end result is a blustery, over-blown epic without half of the required substance and boasting the worst performances of some of Hollywood's most impressive actors.
Banderas is up with the best of them: like the film itself, which must have been a good idea on paper, Banderas looks well positioned as the hot-headed, revolutionary Pedro, who shares some heated romantic scenes with a near-zombified Winona Ryder. But ultimately his performance is just as soulless as the whole project: a curious mishandling of the material that almost feels provocative or intentional.
Not a strong moment for anyone involved at all.
