Aquaman: 22 Easter Eggs & References Explained

12. The Trident Of Atlan

Aquaman Atlan Triden Dead King S Scepter
Warner Bros. & DC Comics

The bulk of Aquaman's narrative revolves around Arthur retrieving the legendary lost Trident of Atlan, which belonged to the original ruler of Atlantis, Atlan, and can be used to unite the seven kingdoms under a single worthy ruler.

The Trident of Atlan basically serves as a stand-in for the Dead King's Scepter, which in the comics was forged by Atlan in order to defend against his own brother Orin.

The Dead King's Scepter had the power to annihilate entire continents and also control the Trench, while also being stolen by Black Manta at one point, though in the movie its utility is simplified and streamlined for cinematic purposes.

Then again, perhaps the inevitable Aquaman 2 might expand upon exactly how powerful the Trident of Atlan can be.
