Aquaman Final Trailer Reactions: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. The Inconsistent Visual Effects

Though there's undeniably a ton of visual majesty in the trailer, there are also some visual effects that look a little on the wonky side, if we're being kind.

Probably the worst shot in the entire trailer shows a young Arthur swimming in the ocean with Vulko. Young Arthur's face looks like a crude papier-mâché model pasted over a digital body, and it's hilariously bad if not revolting to gawk at.

It's also painfully obvious that some digital de-aging has been applied to Willem Dafoe for some of the flashback sequences, and let's just say it doesn't even begin to measure up to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's incredible work in that field.

Also, a lot of Aquaman's leaping movements look weirdly floaty and fluid, and way too much of the action has an ugly digital blur to it that's just rather offputting.

It's a shame because Wan was clearly self-conscious about showing off the movie's visual effects before they were complete - hence why Aquaman's first trailer dropped so late - but it doesn't really feel like the movie's quite where it should be visually with its release so imminent.

If this doesn't end up a major complaint in the reviews, it'd be pretty damn surprising.
