Aquaman Reviews: 9 Early Reactions You Have To See
7. Campy, Crazy, And Proud
One of the most consistent things in these reactions is the fact that everyone seems to feel Wan and his team have really gone for it in terms of camp and insanity. Which is great because, after all, this is a film about a guy who can talk to fish and rides sharks in his free time. It practically needs to be campy.
And according to these reactions, not only is it campy but it is wonderfully aware of just how campy it is.
As @GermainLussier said:
"Aquaman is a big, fun, wild ride. It’s unabashedly melodramatic and over the top with the largest, most ambitious sense of scale imaginable. Parts of it are kind of bad but they are not the majority and, oddly, still fit in with the cartoony tone. 2nd best DCU movie. YEEEAAHH!"
Or as @TheOtherScottM felt:
"Aquaman is bonkers! Ambitious, campy & so much fun. James Wan embraces the source material by creating a one-of-a-kind superhero origin story that stands out in a sea of other superhero films. It is a relentless visual spectacle that knows what it is & doesn't hold back."
