Aquaman Trailer Reactions: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. It's Deliciously WEIRD

It would have been a catastrophic error to try and play Aquaman too seriously. Sure, it might have been easy to play down the sillier elements, like Arthur being able to communicate with fish or his choice of "mighty steed," but that wouldn't have done the source material justice and it would have alienated core fans.

Instead, thankfully, it appears that Wan has embraced the weirdness and just gone with it. We're getting battle sharks, deep sea creatures in battle, fish men, a full aquarium standing up to bullies and a cavalry of giant sea horses. And while there have obviously been conscious efforts to improve everything on the bad-ass spectrum, it's good to see a director actually USING the source material instead of trying to adapt its essence out to suit his own agenda.
